The bad news: You did get ripped off on the DI service. If it helps, so does everyone who goes to a dealer...it always seems to be $700+. The DI cassette costs 300, the plugs <10 for the set, and the replacement should take less than half and hour total. Maybe you can get them to take back their DI cassette and refund you some of the money since that obviously wasn't the problem?

Irregular idle is often due to a dirty or stuck IAC valve. (Before someone jumps on me for saying this, note that he has a 1999, and all the '99s except Viggens are T5 and still have an IAC valve). I know it seems like a big coincidence that it started being a problem after the head gasket job, but these things happen...or it could be that in the process of the installation, something got bumped and some dirt dislodged and stuck in the IAC.

Clogged injectors would also cause a problem. Run some Techron Concentrate through it.

The PCV valves have also been problematic on these cars, and I wouldn't be surprised if yours failed as a result of the installation. That would cause the equivalent of a vacuum leak.

Otherwise, I'd suspect a leak at the head gasket. How clean were the surfaces after you took the old gasket out? Did you use a gasket sealant? Compression test the cylinders to check it out. See if you can come up with a way to do a compression test on the crankcase (there should be a breather hole on the block and one on the valve cover).

Locked CD player: they obviously did the installation wrong, and they should fix it for free.

Good luck,

Matt
