I seem to remember comments from reading old postings regarding water-pump replacement that might explain this. There is a short tube/hose and some o-rings that should also be replaced when doing the pump. Relatively low cost parts which may have been the source of your recent leak.
A glaring example of "Penny wise and pound foolish" if my memory is correct, and this is what they previous tech truly did.
