2000 lpt, recently stuck in south Alabama after CEL and TCS OFF lights came on, car started running rough (limp mode, I assume), and 50mi later car simply shut off and wouldn't respond. Previously, my wife had also complained of shudder/surge while at stoplights.

Starts right up and runs great for nearest dealer after resetting limp solenoid. I was missing trionic computer update, turns out (thanks Anders). They found no other problems and no error codes-- checked TB (cleaned last month), ignition elec switch, crankshaft position sensor, ground points, vacuum system, fuel pump, battery/starter connections, limp solenoid, TWICE computer, among other things.

Could the missing software update really have caused the shutdown at speed--has anyone heard of that happening before? What would you guys do before driving the car the 400 miles home--anything else? or would you play it safe and put in new TB?
