The oil plug should be backed off and retighened now. If its loose and falls out, you get stranded, perhaps with serious damage if you do not get into neutral ASAP and shut down the engine.
If it will not seal when tight, then back off, wipe clean and put some gasket sealant in the gap on both sides of the washer and reseat it, unless you want to change the oil at this time.
