If the pump is bad, then the brakes would feel weak. You could remove it and see if it feels bad turned by hand. It might not be the source of the noise, but simply a conduction path. I would try a can of snake oil, 8 to 12 ounces, that you add to the oil. Something that claims to free up sticking rings/valve/lifters. Should be something that is stated for use in the oil and not a flush. And it should feel wattery in the container when shaken. So for a few dollars, try that VS just replacing expensive hardware on a suspicion.
At idle, feel the vacuum pump for vibrations, also feel the VC for context.
Pump is 9180191:
Part Number 9180191
Description BRAKVACPUMP9-5
Saab Suggested List 164.00
There are some seals or o-rings in there for the mount to the VC. Don't know if they come with a new pump or not.
