I just got my Saab back from the dealer. I'm looking at the invoice for the previous repair and this repair.
=======================================================================
Previous Repair Invoice from January 13th:
1) replaced air flow sensor
2) replaced defective catalytic converter and all 6 spark plugs due to fouling
3) changed oil
=========================================================================
Invoice I just received tonight:
- Checked fault codes with Tech II.
P-1300 - random misfires detected, catalyst damaging.
- Catalytic converter puuting out fould odor and no flow out of tail pipe
Removed and replaced 3 way catalytic converter V-6 gas
=========================================================================
Are there two catalytic converters or did the dealer change it twice? On page 151 of the Saab 9-5 owner's manual under the section "Important Considerations With Catalytic Converters", the is a diagram that shows the location in the engine compartment of the engine control module, O2 sensor and catalytic converters (plural).
When I got the car back from the dealer after the january 13 breakdown, it still seemed to idle roughly and accelerate a little sluggishly.
Now I notice the car idles more smoothly and accelerates better than it has in the past few weeks before the first (Jan 13th) incident.
So I hope that this problem has been put to bed for good. Thanks to all of you for your feedback.
Mike
