That might also help you. I noticed you are quite fresh SAAB 9-5 owner. I also bought used one last year (at 80.000 km).
I drive 9-5 MY '98 2.3 SE, 116 000 KM , and always used Mobil 1 5W-50W
Local service without my approval changed oil type (Castrol 5W-40) and sludge appeared (cca 500km after changing it). I guess that sludge appears on some oil change occasions also. Obviously we have very sensitive car :)
I also have experience that my SAAB consume abt 1.5 l of oil per 15000 KM, I use to change oil on 15.000 km. Local dealer claims that it is normal, but I guess it is not so. So far I just take care and check oil each 2000 km.
So far I had some mechanical problems with stucking reverse gea (since 80.000 km - costed me abt 700 US, annyoing, but car was able to drive) and clutch problem (abt 112.000 km another 800 US, car was imobile) .
Otherwise I am very satisfied with car . I also had rear car crash of some small ford ecort, and there was just minor (but expensive damage - 2500 US on rear bumper + rear trunk door). Ford was driving cca 50km per hour, and crashed into me without braking. I just felt gentle tap on my head. That is one of reasons why I adore this car. In previous smaller car I had some problems with head ache after similar crash.
