both of the 9-5 engines I've autopsied in the last year presented with sudden poor running and low compression on #4 cylinder. This was due to frictional overheating of the piston when the cooling jet which sprays the piston's undersides lost it's oil supply. Material from the side of the piston was smeared in the cylinder wall which was terminally scuffed. This damage is easy to differentiate from detonation damage which looks more like someone took a cutting torch to the face of the piston and burned a hole through it. So, which one is "piston meltdown"? It's a question of definition and possibly semantics. As always, the devil is in the details. When I first heard of the 8 year warranty I thought "Wait until we see the details". I doubt many claims will be paid.
