If you search the board, you will see my posts recently on the same topic. There are some from 2003 as well.
I checked the Haynes Manual wiring diagram over with a colleague at work who has an electrical background. From what we see, there is a switch in the motor that allows the wipers to get back to the Parked position after you turn off the switch.
In our 99MY 9-5SW, intermittent goes across 1/3, then the next 1/3 and finally to rest positions. In single sweep, it stops when you let go of the lever. On regular speed, it works fine until you turn it off, when it just parks wherever on the windshield.
If it was the motor itself, as in bad windings, none of the functions would work at all. Ergo, most likely the little switch. I was hoping it was just wet contacts, but after seeing an earlier post, it looks like the best solution will be to replace the whole motor, hopefully with a used one.
It is annoying, but since they still work, I am just waiting for better weather to get it fixed!
Cheers,
CrNiFe
