Tailgate locking logic?

Speaking of Saab ergonomics - this just drives me nuts.
Why is there a separate remote button for the tailgate? Why wouldn't it lock/unlock when I lock/unlock all the doors? Does not make sense to me. I mean, I still have to pull the mechanical handle above the licence plate to open the tailgate, so it is not actually going to wide open the it is unlocked.
My VW Golf does just that - one press of a "unlock" button and all the doors and tailgate can be manually opened. Pressing the tailgate button actually open the tailgate about half an inch - no need to press the lock to open the liftgate further. Although, the tailgate can be locked mechanically with a key - and then it can only be opened with the remote button or a "trunk" button on the center console.
The time it drives me nuts is when the car is parked, all doors open and I suddenly need something from the trunk - and I have to either find the key and walk to the driver's door, for no apparent reason.
