same thing happened to me, slightly higher mileage. Mine started "venting" fluid out one of the ports.

My dealer offered me a used one for $1200 + $400 labor. I purchased used for $150. Changing is fairly straighforward. You will need a set of special wrenches (crows foot) to grip hydraulic fittings. You will also need to bleed the brakes when finished.

I would recommend joining a service like "alldata.com". They have detailed instructions for this procedure. Cost is approx $20 (US). I saved big bucks repairing my own 9-5.

I should mention I not affiliated with that company. I've found them to be a good source of repair info.

Your right, it is a lot of money and your car doesn't have many miles. I felt the same as you. For a well engined car, many of the parts are junk and poor quality. The water pump, power steering pump, ABS module, fuel tank, fuel filler neck, and blower motor have been replaced before 73K miles.

Many will say "that just normal". I don't buy it. I've never had this many parts fail on a car. Most don't care as their cars are under some sort of warranty program.
