In my previous 9-5 (2000 Aero), the car would crank but not start intermittently and replacing the battery did solve the problem. Your car is fairly new though so I'm not sure how likely this is in your situation. The sludge is almost impossible given the age of the car. Crankshaft position sensor maybe?
