The best way is to prevent any sort of heavy brake dust/dirt build up in the first place....I wash my rims DAILY with just a soft sponge and warm water...Stuff comes right off easily....The front two tires are the worst.
I know it sounds a bit extreme, but if you do it daily, your car looks perfect ALL the time, and it just takes 5 minutes.
In my opinion...A dirty car with SHINY rims looks TONS better than a spotless car with dirty rims.
Clean rims MAKE the car!
