For a few of your following this, I finally finished my install this weekend: 100W rms 10" powered Bazooka tube in trunk of 1999 9-5 sedan SE with H/K system; controller in coinholder location. It seems to work quite well. My comparison is with my 1994 900s 5dr (now sold). As you know the H/K system is quite good but just doesnt have the bottom end a sub can deliver. Thus, the "impact" is not as great as with the old 900 system (which had aftemarket 6x9 Pioneers in rear). The more difficult task is adjustment and balance of the sub with the rest of the system. Since the HK system as multiple amps with hi/full/lo ranges running off different amps/speakers, this makes it more challeging than the 900 system. I did run the hi-level inputs to the sub from the rear deck low-freq "subs" speakers. I've been playing with four adjustments: 9-5fader, 9-5bass, input sens on the sub, and the optional power controller for the sub (mounted in coinholder). I'm happy with it.
Thoughts for improvement: more efficient rear speakers in doors and deck so that I hear more sound from rear perhaps. This of course is challenging with impedence matching in the 9-5. I use dto always balance the fader F/R equal. If I fade to the rear more now, I get an overall better surrounding sound from highs from the rear as well being heard and more full bass range due to little less distracting sound coming from front of car. I'm still experimenting and likely will for ever! Another thought is that with the louder HK system than what I had previously in 900, the 9-5 could probably use two 10" powered subs or perhaps a 250rms 10" sub ILO the 100rms I have EL10A-HP. With the 900 head unit even with the extremely more efficient Pioneers, the 100w was overpowering. Not quite so with the HK system. Need more power! I doubt I do anything else though: 100% stock except for the tube.
Anyway, I can post pics? I;d love to show off the tube controller installed in the coinholder. I know it sounds pimped up but it actually looks like it was made to go there.
