With the 9-5 you pay for liability and collision. Car protects us so well, it gets too damaged for the underwriters liking so they charge more. Not sure I understand this since the insurance company will more than make up the cost of the damage to the car from the saved cost on bodily injury.
Liability is a killer, especially in large metro areas. Throw in younger drivers (<25, sometimes more now) or driving record issues (you once did 10 over on an open highway at 3am) and it can cost more for insurance than a car in lots of cases.
