I love all the feedback here. Thank you, everybody.
The car is an automatic. All the lights and air conditioning and radio work but the ignition does not even turn over. I do have the second key and I will carry both with me from now on to see if the second one works when the first doesn't.
Yesterday it wouldn't start for then minutes then it did. And then it wouldn't start for five hours, so I went to borrow some jumper cables to see if it was the battery. When I came back, it started fine without even jumping it.
BUT GET THIS: the car worked fine all day today. I started it 20 times and it started right away each time. I don't think it can be the battery if it doesn't work and then works fine after lots of short trips. Maybe the connection to the battery. I'D LIKE YOUR THOUGHTS HERE.
I took it to a dealer and hopefully it will NOT start for them. I just don't want to hear that it ain't broke so they can't fix it.
The good news is that by coincidence the car originally came from the dealer (Walnut Creek, CA) that I took it to today. They told me the original lease owner had done all the scheduled services and had even changed the oil every 5,000 miles, which I understand is sooner than required. I owe the balance on the car so I'm going to finalize the transaction and pay them tomorrow. I hope I don't regret it... (My '88 900S is still running fine!)
