A Saab newbie, the 9-5, & "Saab stories"

Hello all. I'm considering buying a 2000 9-5 Aero with about 60k miles. A friend & longtime Saab fanatic convinced me that the 9-5 was an excellent value as a used car. His argument was as follows: With the 9-5, Saab has made great leaps in reliability, but the car still tends to take a plunge in resale value because of Saab's lingering poor reputation among the general public.
So is he right about the reliability? Or will I have to constantly explain the Millennium Falcon-like charms of my electrical system to passengers, learn to love my quirky HVAC compressor, & cultivate an expensive business relationship with some factory-certified grifter named Sven?
Don't mean to diss all of you Saab-heads in this forum, by the way. As an admiring outsider, I see the brand as the Captain Beefheart, the Boston Red Sox, the William Gaddis of cars. But as a hardcore LA commuter, maybe i need the automotive equivalent of Hootie, the Yankees, & John Grisham. Maybe I need to lern to stop worrying and love the Accord. :)
