I didn't lift the hood of my car to check, but from looking at the battery tray exploded diagram in my EPC it appears there is a large clamp on the back side of the battery. This is held in place by a large nut threaded on a stud welded to the tray, this clamp pushes the battery forward to wedge the base lip under the front tray edge.
My OEM battery failed and was repalced by an Interstate brand by a Dealer; so "Yes", aftermarket maintenance-free batteries are available. If you get one without a barb to connect the vent hose, don't worry about it. If your new battery has a vent barb (my Interstate does) reconnect the hose.
