apples and oranges but the 300C was a re-engineering of the MB 300. It was a brilliant corporate plan that used an older car's technology/parts bin which was rated very highly and made it more modern and attractive to NA buyers. It worked. It is not a typical NA road hog as you suggest. Just has a contemporary look much like the concept car which show goers loved.
