I think time is showing that all the engines are reliable (B235R/E, B308), but with the V6 you need to make sure to change the timing or else bad things can happened and with the 2.3t, you need to watch for sludging. So if properly maintained, either engine can be great - just a matter of personal preference. As far as years go, I'd look to 02 or newer if I was buying a used 9-5 now due to the upgraded suspension and the superior 5 speed auto (if you are going auto) and I believe the xenons were introduced in 02 as well. I would say there's no difference in reliablility with a high output turbo (Aero) versus the low pressure turbo. An 02 9-5 Aero is about the best value in the used car market today in my opinion. Good luck!
