Thanks to all who responded in this thread. Your input was helpful.

So here is the update. I took my 9-5 in as I mentioned, for service. As anticipated the diagnoses was a bad turbo. The quoted cost: $1720.00 (not sure if rebuilt or new, or the details of the failiure, I didnt ask). I called SAAB to say I felt this is a premature failure of the turbo and would they help me on the cost. SAAB asked me the ususal questions; "what's model and year of the car?", "how many miles", "are you the orginal owner of the car?" (if you can't answer yes to the last one you might have some explaning to do), "where is the car serviced", etc. The customer service person said she would call the dealer to review the sitiuation. Five hours later I get a call form the dealer and my cost was reduced to about a third of the original quote.

Apparenelty after discovering that the car was serviced at minimum in accordance with the owners manual they are tacitly acknowlewedging some premature wear of the turbo. I actually feel SAAB should pay for the entire repair, however, since the car is out of warranty I won't look the gift horse in the mouth.

So that's the skinny. By the way they gave me a 2005 9-5 loaner. Nice engine and suspension. The suspension improvement over my 2001 is quite noticable. the car doen't roll in turns nearly as much.
