I recently replaced my leaking 9-5 switch with a new Saab part with wiring and special Saab plug attached. My wife calls me Friday with the oil light on and warning chime going off on her 9-5. She got off the road quickly as I had drilled her in the past on what to do and shut down the car. The car was full of oil, no leaks at filter or anywhere else. She then cranked the car per my instructions and listened. The engine was fine and no oil warning. I told her to take it home and leave the hood up until I got home. I had a NG900 oil pressure switch on the shelf and I have already compared it to the 9-5 when I changed the original leaking switch. I had to fix the car. I walked the gasket off the old original switch, cut off the wire next to the switch, put a blade connector on it and installed the NG900 switch ($3.99) switch into the place where the >$16 switch was. It went in perfectly. Plenty of clearance next to the starter. I noticed originally when I popped the cap off the old switch it too was a blade connector with a wire solderred on and a fancy cap to cover it all up (IE how to make a generic $3 part to a proprietary $16+ part in one easy step) It has functioned fine and even though the board sponsor is sending me a new original part for the 9-5 I am leaving the NG900 sender on the car due to it is a royal PITA to change due to starter removal and general tight working conditions. By the way the trick to getting the connector undone from underneath is a small flat blade screwdriver under the red tab and have your wife hold it from the top from the passenger side of the engine compartment arm reached deep, cold engine. The one handed stuff will drive you nuts with the connector. I am also keeping a spare NG900 Sender on the shelf. I can afford a $3.99 backup for this part due to frequent failure. Funny I never had to change one on my 1963 Chevrolett Corvair. Maybe those French sensor companies should buy an old car and figure out how it should be done.
