Hey,
I am eyeing a 86K mile 9-5 in the South Jersey - Philly area.
Its a 02 9-5 with the premium Xenon/Hkardon package and automatic to boot.
Money is an issue for me but excess mileage on a car is not. I live in the city use public transportation to work and use my cars on the weekends. As such, I have found that "mileage" is not a problem for modern automobiles i.e. engine wear, more often individual parts fail at higher mileages. I do maybe 10K a year...so after 5 years this car would only be a bit after 120K service....If a water/fuel pump or a turbo fails - so be it - it happens on younger cars as well...
Aside from running the carfax and taking the vin to a dealer for service and possible sludge check what else should I be on the lookout for?
The car has highway miles (south jersey) probably a daily commute car to nearby PA...
Some questions I wanted to run by you guys (and girls)...
1- It is my understanding that *nothing* after 60K gets done for free at the dealer? flickering xenons, SIDs and all those other tidbits...
2- Do Xenon bulbs wear out with time? Anyone have any xenon problems >60K aside from the usual shutter getting stuck?
3- I am aware the rubber and suspension may have been neglected. Id be looking to put on a new set of rubber and do the brakes/susp probably right after buying....
What else should I "factor in" as probable service right after purchase?
Thanks for taking the time out,
Tom
