Please help - "Tensioner Seized" Posted by SaabATL [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just talked to Jim Ellis Saab in Atlanta and they gave me some bad news that I’m trying to process now. Apparently the “tensioner’s seized” and the timing belt on my 1999 9-5 V6 with 79k miles has damaged the engine. The repair estimate is $2000-$6000 depending on the damage which is not known until “they break it down.” I’m looking at $1000 to “break it down.” I was cruising along the highway when suddenly felt a thump and lost power. No other warning signs or sounds. Jim Ellis changed the timing belt at 60k miles – about July 2003. Does it seem like something catastrophic like my case should happen so soon? I’ve looked around briefly on the board and it now seems like this has happened to others. I need to go talk to Jim Ellis and discuss the next steps. Is anyone aware of anything Saab USA might be doing about this situation? Please provide any specific information that I can use when I talk to Jim Ellis. I really like the car and have taken care of it. This is a real bummer. I’ve seen something about an 8-year warranty – I’m guessing I’m out of luck on that but thought I should mention it. I would appreciate any help or advice. THANK YOU!
