OK - so I've now read enough bad stories of these pulleys going bad to get worried myself. I too have 71K on my 2000 V-6 wagon, and had the timing belt (alone) changed at 60K. I am going to bite the bullet and go back to my indy to now have these pulleys changed out. (I brought him the timing belt (eeuroparts.com) last year, and he only charged $250 for the install).
But... now I don't understand which pulleys to purchase. People on this board have mentioned "tensioners", "tensioner pulleys", "short belts", "idler pulleys", etc. Eeuroparts is listing a "timing belt tensioner", a "timing belt tensioner pulley", and a "serpentine belt tensioner", but no "idler pulleys". What exactly should I be replacing on a 2000 V-6?
Second question: since the engine will be opened back up again, should I spend another $50 to purchase another timing belt (only 11K miles on the current one), or does the belt installation involve labor that isn't necessary with the pulleys only? What about the water pump also? For the record, the car runs great and I hear no extraordinary sounds.
Thanks Swedecar and others for helping out those of us that are still learning all about this.
