Tensioner Siezed - latest update Posted by SaabATL [Email] (#2775) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SaabATL) on Mon, 16 May 2005 12:04:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Background: Tensioner failed last week on 1999 9-5 V6 with 79k miles while traveling on the interstate.
Right now the car is at the Saab dealer as I try to determine if Saab USA will provide any goodwill assistance. I think it is a long shot but Saab dealer did replace the timing belt at 60k miles.
I just talked to a local Saab only independent mechanic. He estimated that I would need to replace the heads (source from Goldwing), belt, tensioner, and water pump for under $4000. He said he would not expect damage to the motor - if that is the right term. How does that sound? Should other work be performed while that is being done?
Saab dealer said there is a chance "valves went into the cylinder walls" which would be extensive damage. Do you agree w/ the independent that the heads are the real issue? I'm sorry to keep posting around this but this is way out of my knowledge area. Thanks for you input and any other recommendations.
