Ideas.......Re: Wheels balanced and still vibrating Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Wheels balanced and still vibrating...now what?, Fred, Tue, 17 May 2005 16:18:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Fred:
Here are some ideas for diagnosing the problem.
1. First, check that all tires are mounted so that the direction of rotation is correct......if your new tires are directional. An error here causes some funny symptoms.
2. If you have snow tires on rims, put these on the car to determine whether the problem is with the new tires and rims.
3. If the snow tires and rims work OK...put the front tires back on.
4. If step #2 produces good results...it appears that you have a problem with one or both of the rear tire/rims. Check to see if one or both of the rear tires have had a lot of weight (mor than 3 oz.) added to balance them. Check the lateral runout of the rear tires... lot of runout will cause grief.
5. If the snow tires/rims produce the same results be suspicious of your rear shocks. Generally these are good for 80K-100K miles. If they're leaking, replace them.
6. Wheel bearings will cause unpleasant vibrations also.
Conclusion: If you rule out the tires/wheels...be suspicious of the rear shocks first...very easy to replace
