and so far it points to balancing.

The car rode great with OEM 16s. Then I had a new set of 17" EVO rims and tires put on my 01 wagon, replacing my OEM 16s. When I drove the car home in town it seemed fine. The next day I took it out on the interstate and thought "oh, crap, I screwed up the car with these low profile tires!" The ride felt like you were going on a series of washboard bumps -- only non-stop. You could feel your cheeks vibrate it was so bad! I took it back in and they did it again. I don't know what the type of machine was they used, but I was a bit concerned when they only spun the tire up to speed then stopped right away -- I would think the tire would need to get more momentum going, say for 5-10 seconds at max speed, but what do I know. This time they used adhesive weights on the inside middle of the wheels rather than the outside rim (looks nicer too). They had to put eight 1/4oz on one rear which seem like a lot to me, but it felt MUCH better on the 5 mile interstate test. I'll need to take it out again and see if it is smooth again. I'm hoping it will be nearly as smooth as the OEM 16s were. Although the car also had touring tires so there is yet another variable. Don't know if that helps you much.
