I was dissapointed that our 2003 and 2004 SAAB 95s had German built engines. I remember a picture in the 1996 SAAB 900 brochure that showed some Swede production people turning wrenches on a Swedish engine. My wife drove her 1996 Saab 900S with very minor maintenance problems and we sold it with 100,000+ miles and it was still going strong. Our 1989 Saab 900S engine was still strong when we sold it with 110,000 miles.
If the entire Saab is built in Germany, I will either buy one of the Saab niche vehicles built in Sweden or buy a damn BMW or Jaguar or ???. What is a Saab built in Germany? Same as a BMW or Mercedes built in the US? I love our Saabs but the Saab brand is in danger of losing their core buying constituency. Will a younger/different group step in to make up for the lost sales? That's the question.
