DI Cassette Help

I've got a 2000 9-5 sedan V6 with 77k miles. About three weeks ago we started to notice the car had what felt like a miss. At stop signs there would be an intermittant jerk and a couple of times it felt like it might stall. We took it on a trip last weekend to the mountains, and on an uphill grade we could feel it happening again.
I took it to the local indie and they found that each cylinder had logged a couple hundred misfires, but #2 had logged four to five times as many. There were no codes logged. Their best guess was that the DI was satarting to fail. They said I should replace both sides at the same time, and their estimate was $1200.
I have several questions:
1) Does this sound like a bad DI Cassette?
2) Does $1200 sound like a reasonable estimate from an indie?
3) Is it difficult to replace the DI myself?
4) Should I do both sides at the same time?
5) How much should it cost for both DI's?
6) what else should I replace while I'm in there?
Thanks in advance for your expertise, and if there is other information I should know, please fill me in.
