I have a '00 SE wgn with about 52K on the ticker.

About 2 months ago, I was having the same symptoms. Of course, I immediately knew it was a failing DI cassette from frequenting this board. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the failing cassette. When I asked about having to replace the other, they said there was no need as long as it's working properly. Which it is. However, my car is CPO so I paid nothing. The dealer said Saab would probably cover it up to 60K on goodwill, but with you having 77K, I'd image that would be a stretch for goodwill.

So when I take my next long road trip, I'm going to replace the other DI cassette and use the replaced one as my spare.

As far as the cost for repair, I must say that indie is trying to take you for all it's worth. The V6 DI cassettes are more expensive than the one for the 4 cyl. I think they are about $420 each at the dealer. Probably less through our site sponsors. And it literally would take you 15 minutes to install the new one yourself.

Bottom line...find out which one is failing. Order the new DI cassette and install it yourself. That way you save about $800. Or replace both. Then you have a spare and you save yourself about $350.
