I have an older Volvo 740GL with about 160K of usage of Mobil 1 oil and Mann filters (I bought a case when we first bought the car). I use Mobil 1, and Mobil 1 Filters, on the rest of our cars and trucks.
We go about 7500 miles with about 50% freeway and 50% around town driving. I had the oil checked a few times to see how it was holding up, and it looked like I could have extended this to 10-12.5K without any problems. I looked at $30 for oil, filter and labor to change - and kept at 7.5K.
Out Turbo Saabs get changed at 5K (could also probably be extended to 7.5-10K), and my truck gets changed at 5K or every year depending on usage,
Mann's seem to have a good reputation on the Volvo board's, and I have zero complaints. The Mobil 1 filters seemed to come out good in all of the info I've read, so I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks to use them.
I alays felt that the key is to keep on changing the oil as needed, dependent on usage conditions - bad/dirty oil will cause more damage then a teenager with a lead foot!
Keep those turbo's spooling...
