You can tear it down or clean chemically. The outcome of both approaches can be mixed. You may have seen the traffic where the later style oil pumps are identified as a problem. So in some cases, no matter how approached, a new oil pump might be needed. The oil pressure relief valve also must not be over looked.
For now, I would change the oil, use Rotella 5W40 synthetic $13.44 at Walmart for 1 gallon. Use some flushing oil then drain, add the new oil with some product that is meant to be driven on. It should claim to free sticking rings and valves and feel watery in the container. I would inspect the drained oil in a tray for globs or whatever. And fish throught the drain using a wire to see what you might find. If things are a mess, the pas probably needs to come off for cleaning and clean the oil pickup screen that may be plugged up. At that point it would be easy to remove a few bearing caps and inspect the bearing to determine if they are fit for continued service. If oil is a mess, the filter may be getting full of crap fast. The removed filter can be opened up to see. AutoRX is also good for long term continued cleaning.
Removing the valve cover can provide a good evaluation of how much oil has been polimerized into plastic/goo.
