I'm running Mobil 1 15W-50 right now. I live in the Washington DC area. The owner's manual shows this as being a proper grade for the temperature range we have in the summer, and it meets the various specs. I also figure this probably provides an extra bit of protection. Quite possibly overkill ;) I do 5k changes, and use the 5W-40 and 0W-40 Mobil 1s in the other seasons.
I thought my fuel economy had dropped, until this past weekend. Back when I switched to it, at 35k, I also put in new spark plugs and I've been driving around with a roof rack. My SID average mpg dropped to the 24-25 range, when it used to be in the 27-28 range. I figured it was probably a combo of the heat, heavier oil, and the roof rack. So I took the roof rack off for a trip this past weekend, made the drive from DC to Philly, and got 31 mpg according to the SID. This leads me to believe there's probably only a small fuel economy hit.
