I want to tap into the vast knowledge of all the guru's out there, so I am just going to tell my story and ask for any advice, weather you think its trivial or not, I would like to hear it.
I bought a 1999 9-5 2.3 lpt with knocking in the engine, no service records, it was cheap enough to justify replacing the engine.
I bought an engine out of a 2001 Aero crash test vehicle (virtually no miles)
I have swapped engines and transmissions on 3 separate NG900's 1 turbo, 2 naturally aspirated, but never worked on a 9-5.
I plan on swapping the engine soon, but wanted to see if anyone had any advice for preventative things that are easier to do when the engine is out i.e water pump ect.. I have already had a tip to replace the oil pressure sender, this could be good advice, but I know theres more, so hit me with it!
I was also wondering on tips for actual engine replacement. On the NG900's I would always just lift the engine out of the top, even though the service manual says to lower it out the bottom. Im open to either way thats easier on the 9-5.
Also, I am aware that all 2001 engines had the stronger forged internals that was exclusive to Aero models in 99-00. I will probably put an Aero ECU in my car, and keep the LPT? Anyone know if the exhaust manifold, oil and cooler lines are the same? How bout the exhaust in general?
Thanks for the advice, let me hear it!
