On our 9-5, IIRC, you press hold "Clear" button down in one long press, first it says "Cleared" but you keep holding, then a few seconds later it says "Serviced." That way, your stored mpg, etc., are not erased. We may be describing the same thing, but I wasn't sure.
BTW, on oil change intervals, the new Infiniti G35 that is replacing our lease-ended 2002 9-5 Linear in our garage has an oil change interval of 3,750 miles per the service book in the glove compartment. Wonder why they haven't gotten on the 15k bandwagon? Feeding the serice department?
