The 9-5 engine seems to be a very nice engine and should not be compared to the NG900/9000 V6.
It still have the timing belt issue though and at every 60K miles, the timing belt and the whole tensioner bracket with pulleys (three of them) should be replaced to be on the safe side.
The 9-5 V6 develops a small oil leak from a front engine cover but that is very easy to reseal.
At some point and time the crank shaft position sensor needs to be replaced but is also a minor repair (if the mechanic is on top of Saab repairs).
It seems that the V6 has less of the ignition cassette failures compared to the 4 cyl engine or that it might be less V6 sold during those years and therefore the sampling rate is smaller.
