The physical location of the sensor is in the front of engine block toward transmission bell housing. It's a little bit tricky to get to and you need to remove some brackets for the turbo to get it out. I don't think you can do it from above but need to do the work from under the car.
In the back of engine (toward firewall) is where the electric connector (blue 4 pin connector with only three wires in) is located and where I hook my test tool up to read the resistance of the sensor when checking if it is bad or not.
While in there on a V6 engine I would also replace the o-ring for the blind cover of old oil filter location. That o-ring will start to leak sooner or later and it is easy to reach when the CKP sensor is out of the way.
