Thanks, everyone, for your input on warranties. I have owned this car for 5 weeks, 3 of which it has spent back at the dealership getting a new transmission, catalytic converter and front suspension work (90-day B-to-B dealership warranty, thank goodness).
But at 48K?....
My confidence is clearly shaken at this point. And the boards indicate that the problems with this car are not uncommon, so I spend a lot of time asking myself why it was I thought I needed a Saab in the first place. We also have a '99 Saturn with 130K and an '89 Buick with 160K that have given us little if any problems over and above routine maintenance and both of which will probably another 30-40K. Which raises the question: "Why would I entertain regular $1000-2000+ repair bills on things that typically last far longer if not a lifetime) or cost far less on most other cars?" Granted, my other cars are a far cry from luxury, but they have always operated reliably.
So I'll either purchase the warranty or flip the car for something else. And probably sooner than later. Wondering what's going to happen every time you turn the key or hear a noise is no way to enjoy a car, regardless of the styling, luxury or safety it offers. And keeping $2000 handy in the drawer for that next repair (and the next and the next...) seems anything but intelligent. My pockets are just not that deep.
