Rule no. 1: car never goes to dealer except for service under warranty. When warranty expires, burn dealer's phone number.
Rule no. 2: dealer will always try to figure out why your problem is not covered by warranty. be prepared to walk away from car, you may have to leave it at dealer for some days before they're convinced that you're not an idiot.
Rule no. 3: never bring in car on Mon or Fri. Mon they're still sobering up; Fri they're getting ready to party.
Rule no. 4: everybody's got to make a living, but you'll never pay more for shoddy work than at the average dealer.
Rule no. 5: there might be one mech in the shop who actually knows how to fix a car, try to find out who it is, and don't let anybody else near your car even if you have to sit there all day.
Rule no. 6: don't believe the service manager when he/she tells you they've taken the car for a test drive and it's ok now; the only thing taken for a ride is you.
All the above is true, learned through years of experience with different makes and models, Amer and Euro.
Having said all of that, I will be bringing my warranty-covered car to the dealer when nec., but you've got to show them that you have a bad attitude problem, and scare them more than they scare you.
