Watch that conversion from US Gal to Imp Gal.. Posted by CrNiFe [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Oh no! What happened to my gas mileage? (longish), C H Tay, Thu, 25 Aug 2005 23:16:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
C H,
True enough 10.0 litres per 100 kilometres is 28.2 miles per Imperial Gallon, but the US gal is 3.785 litres and the Canadian one is 4.546, (remember that we have 160 ounces to their 128 ounces, but the US ounces are 4.1% larger, for historical reasons unknown to me!), so that would convert to 23.5 miles per US gallon.
I just ran a long trip, 4500 km to the Maritimes, and with a full load and a fat Thule roof rack, running at 125 km/h (75+ mph). I consumed about 9.3 litres per 100 km, which is 30.3 miles per Imp gal, or 25.2 miles per US gal. I know my alignment is off slightly, so that might account for additional drag. The car was just tuned up too. The best number I saw on the SID was 8.9.
If NP can smell gas in the car, there may be something going on with the fuel lines or the gas cap. Need to check that out.
Regards,
CrNiFe Toronto
