V6 Oil Cooler Lines

I recently resealed the cover on the oil heat exchanger on my 2000 9-5 V6. The oil lines (steel tubing with banjo fittings) need to be removed to allow the cover to come off. Does anyone have experience removing these lines with the engine in the car? I gave up after a few hours; the line that connects to the top of the oil filter housing was so tight that the nut holding it in started to deform...trying to loosen it with a 19 mm crowsfoot/universal joint/24" extension was a trick as well. The other line connects to the block and is almost impossible to see let alone disconnect! I bent the lines out of the way to do my repair but this
created another problem: I accidentally cross threaded one of the banjo bolts (torqued to specs but cross threaded!) when I re-connected the lines to the oil cooler. Long story short: don't buy synthetic oil if you're only going to pump it on to your garage floor (: All is well now, got more practice removing/installing the intake manifolds but still would like to know how to remove those lines. I wish Saab would offer a set of flexible hi-temp hoses for retrofit since their oil cooler cover is prone to leaking.
