When loosening those lines down at the engine it is super important to use a good wrench (flange nut wrench) of high quality that fit snug around the flange nut.
After fitting the wrench you need to give it one hard/quick/good tug or jolt to crack the flange nut loose.
Don't try to pull slowly and steady but give it one good whack. That way the flange nut will not know what happened and can't build up resistance against your attempts to loosen it.
The flange nut walls are so thin so if you apply too much sideway force you squeeze the flange together.
Yes you experianced the reason why the oil cooler lines should not be bent upwards. Even if you get the banjo bolt in correctly it could be really difficult to get the lines to seal again since the metal surface is no longer perfectly flat to the oil cooler surface and it is only so much you can squeeze an aluminum or copper washer together on one side.
Saab used to have oil cooler hoses on the 900/9000 model but those goes bad too at some point and time and needs to be replaced.
This oil cooler and pipe system is good if it only had been done correctly with high quality parts from factory.
