Just posting for the record so that someone may find this thread useful when using the search feature.
This evening I installed a pair of Boston Acoustics S35 (latest 2005 model) two way speakers in lieu of the stock H/K speakers in the front dash. I used the factory connectors from the stock H/K paper cones and soldered them onto the new units so everything clicks into place after your done. If you go this route becareful, getting the connectors soldered back onto the H/K speakers could be a pain.
PROS:
I noticed a big improvement; clearer and punchier highs; crystal clear at all volume levels. The highs are "right there" in front of me; vocals pop out and the sound staging appears to be better. I can now listen to the stereo at lower volumes and still keep the high notes, also, when you crank it up the lack of mid/high band distortion from the front allows for a punchier/clearer bass from the rear. I don't know much about audio or the wiring, but it sounds damn good!
CONS:
I purcahsed these over the Infinity Kappa's because I read on these boards that I will not have trouble fitting the grilles back on. Not so.
They changed models from FX3 CX3 to S35 and I think they raised the tweeter. When I lay the speaker into the factory slot the brackets on either side for the screws have 1/16"-1/8" room and are not flush with the dash material. This results in too little clearance and I have to go through that whole dash enlargement process (filing down the existing hole to allow speaker to sit lower). I hope it goes as smooth as the speaker installation which took all of thirty minutes to complete.
