While my '00 Aero was lying in pieces, awaiting delivery of an evaporator core from Sweden, I drove an '05 Arc loaner for 2 weeks. This pretty much killed any notion I had of trading newer this year, mainly because the '05 just seemed "cheapened" in finish and decor. Perhaps my opinion would be different with an optioned interior, perhaps not.
The engines were near equal, as one would expect. I like the newer auto tranny a lot; my 4-speed from '00 is nothing to write home about. I didn't really "test" handling, as I wanted to ensure that the loaner went back in the condition I received it. I dislike the deletion of weather band radio; as this is particularly useful in storms and when en route to the water. Deletion of gas tank access door release doesn't help the "cheapened" feel.
The '05 car, overall, just felt more "pedestrian" and not as far away from a Camry as its (even discounted) price would lead one to expect.
The pix of the '06 show something a bit more attractive externally. Perhaps '07 will be my year to exchange.
