Two thoughts for you. One, the turbo is covered way beyond the factory warranty by the state and federal emissions warranties, I believe 7 or 8 years. Turbo failure is not uncommon, but not really common either with the water cooled oil reservior modern turbos.

Two, have your car CPO'd at lease end. Ask your Saab dealer if they will add the Saab Certified or CPO warranty to the car when they sell it to you at the end of the lease. That's the only loophole whereby a private party can have their car CPO'd, because in order to CPO a car a Saab dealer must sell it and that's exactly what happens when you buy your car at the end of the lease.

We pass through the cost of the warranty which is about $1,200, although I suppose a dealer could charge whatever they want, and additionally charge 3 hours labor for the Certified inspection, so the total is $1,500 That extends the factory warranty from 4 to 6 years and from 50k to 100k. A similar term extended warranty, 24mos/50k miles, from GM lists for $2,590 and has a $50 deductible, whereas the Saab CPO is zero deductible.

Or see me about a new one. You didn't specify which model 2002 Saab 9-5, but 2002 was the first year for all the upgrades. If it's a Linear than a new one will have more power, but otherwise be very similar. If it's an Arc you might drive a new one before getting rid of your V6 as some people prefer the V6 which you can't get anymore. If it's an Aero the 2005 has only slightly revised front and rear lower facias. A 2006 will be another MCE, mid cycle enhancement, like your 2002 was, only more so.
