I bought mine used with few records. Went to the local dealer and he checked on the computer and gave me a report of all work done by Saab dealers. In my case, this included 10,000 mile and 20,000 mile service, plus a new waterpump. I had the 30,000 done (even though it was late - 33,000). Then, for peace of mind, I replaced and retorqued the head bolts...although not showing an oil leak, 2 were very loose. While I had the valve cover off, I looked for sludge, but found none to speak of.
Switched to all synthetic oil and figured I was "good to go." That was a year ago and I have had no real problems or complaints. So far, it's a nice car.
