The answer grasshopper, will be in how you drive and what kind of winter weather you will drive in. There are now a lot of really good winter tires out there.

If you want more non saab thoughts, you might look at this site:

http://www.snowtire.info/

Personally, I've run Nokians since they were Nokia's (Hakka's). I liked them much better than the gislaveds I've had. They have been practically unstoppable in any weather on many different vehicles.

The last time I went with Nokian WR's. I needed to winter sets for both the Volvo 850 (auto, traction, winter selector on tranny) and my Saab 9-5 manual 5spd, no traction control. I went with the recommended, tried and true sizing for the volvo. The WR's (and the Volvo)have really shined, with outstanding performance. Not as good as the Hakka's in really deep or heavy slush, but year round, much quieter, and not as squirmy in the non snow driving.

Went outside the Saab recommendation and tried 215/60-16 Nokian WR's on my 9-5 (Early model w/no traction control but aero suspension). Liked the narrower tires in real snow MUCH better. As Steven Goldberger will say, you'll get better handling with the wider size. With due respect, you give up a significant amount of the "winter" aspect of the tire with the wider choices, especially if you go with something like the WR. (In fact, even though the aero brakes keep you from the 15" option, saab DOES recommend the 195-65-15 as another fitment for the lowlier models - or used to.)

So, if it were me, I'd go with the 205-55-16 size if you really are looking for a winter tire on the aero, and have to deal with lot's of the winter weather. This past 18 monts, I've been swamped with other things (new house, marriage, and baby) and didn't get the WR's off either vehicle.

So I gave up a lot of performance over the summer in both vehicles. But it was nice to have the option to leave them on!
