Thanks for the supportive complaint. In reading Ian's post above, I suspect that saab has purposely avoided recalling the 1999 model owing to the unability to upgrade the ECU software, yet it is for all purposes the same failure prone component.

So to improve the reliability of the 1999 models would likely entail a replacement of the ECU - a cost Saab would understandably wish to avoid.

But this is a company that historically marketed heavily on and promoted the concept of vehicle safety. Seems to me the right thing to do for the 1999 owners is to belly up to recalling these cars as well.

We shall see - I am in direct discussions with the NHTSA educating them of the infamous capacitive discharge Saab DI and why 1999 should be recalled.
