I did it for the appearance only. The other advantages of drilled and/or slotted rotors (less rotating mass, vents for off-gassing of pad materials, better rotor cooling, etc.) really only provide benefit for competition brakes and don't apply to street use. I don't understand your mechanic's statement of less dust with drilled rotors, I think it would be the same. I do like the look though.
Not many choices for Aero brakes. A few places will start with a stock Aero rotor and drill and/or slot it for you. I don't know if anyone other than Saab manufactures their own rotor for the Aero.
